To promote national resource mobilization by the voluntary sector in South Asia. Aiming to develop a distinct South Asian identity and voice on fundraising but to cooperate fully with the Resource Alliance (RA) to help in the global movement for the promotion of voluntary sector fundraising.


Objectives to :

1. Encourage and enhance the skills of fundraiser.

2. Publish and disseminate information on fundraising.

3. Raise issues around fund raising in various fora.

4. Provide practical assistance to organizations or groups of organizations on their fundraising.

5. Function in a financial sound manner gradually building.

Encouraging and enhancing the skills of fundraisers

Programme :

A) Encouraging and enhancing the skills of fundraisers

• Through the formation of Associations of Fundraisers independent (but supportive) of SAFRG.

• Initiating a fellowship/ scholarship programme to enable fundraisers to enhance their skill.

• Conduct/ promote a series of training workshops, from basic to advanced level The training should reach out to regions of South Asia.

• Conduct an annual conference on fundraising (should also become an opportunity for Fundraising Associations to meet).

B) Publish and disseminate information on fundraising

• Build and maintain a proactive web-site/ portal.

• Publish a Newsletter for South Asia (English; Hindi; Bengali; Tamil?

• Produce (or encourage the production) of publications on and around fundraising possibly in conjunction with a publishing house such as Sage.

C) Raising issues around fundraising with various fora
     For example:

• With the donor agency community both national and international (based inside and outside the countries).

• With various network groups such as PRIA, VANI, Helpage, CRY etc.

• With the Government certain ministries such as Planning- Commission, Economic Affairs, Ministry of External affairs, Social Welfare etc. And also with CAPART.

• Promote ethical standards on fundraising. Establish ethical standards appropriate to South Asia for both individual fundraisers and for organizations and encourage for individual fundraisers these would be promoted through SAFRG training courses; and also through the Fundraisers Associations. For organizations; SAFRG would promote the standards through publications and conferences.

• Promotion of public accountability though public resource mobilization by endorsing and supporting the work of the Credibility Alliance.

D) Provide practical assistance to organizations and networks on fundraising

• Maintain a register of consultants and their areas of expertise's.

• Respond to consultancy requests.

E) Provide practical assistance to organizations and networks on fundraising

The above range of activities could be done with three staff or thirty! It is necessary to prepare a plan; cost it and raise the resources to make it happen. The plan could be phased: at a basic level to get moving; and then gradually expand as required or possible. Clearly a proactive and entrepreneurial spirit has to come with SAFRG implying being proactive (constantly) with marketing of its services and ideas.
